LOTUS Award for Holistic Development of an Organisation to Serve Community Better

Holistic approach for any organization is indispensable in its mission to achieve sustained growth and continued improvement in its performance and delivery of services. This is much true for eye care institutions working for social and economic cause of elimination of avoidable blindness. The main purpose of the LOTUS award is to inspire eye care organizations to focus on development and growth along with making eye care available, accessible and affordable. The award was instituted in 2017.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs.50,000 and a memento.

Shri S.N. Shah award for Equity: to provide comprehensive primary eye care screenings with a focus on women and children

Women and children are two vulnerable groups in our society for whom basic health care is still not equally accessible. Socio – economic factors and the predominantly male dominant society moulds health seeking behaviour where women’s health is given the last priority little realising that her well being will help in the overall well being of the family. It then becomes the responsibility of health service providers to ensure that we take special care to focus on women and children towards providing a more equitable health care. It is our endeavour is to promote equity in eye care: i.e., equality in providing eye care for all in the society. The award is an effort in that direction. This award was also instituted in 2013.

The award carries cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a memento.

Dr. Jordan Kassalow VisionSpring Award

This award is being instituted from year 2020.

The main purpose of the VisionSpring award is to inspire smaller and medium volume member hospitals to continue reaching the unreached through eyeglasses and make a lasting difference to their lives.

This award focuses on achievements of those working in any of the following field:

–        Refractive error or presbyopia

–        Innovation or unique eyeglasses, distribution models, use of technology in    
          building a sustainable outreach program

The winner will get an award worth estimated value of Rs. 11 Lakhs in the below mentioned heads:

–     The award carries a monetary prize of Rs.50,000 and a memento.

–      3,000 complimentary corrective eyeglasses or readers for programs benefitting
       low-income group people or children within 1 year, from date of award.

–      Also, the awardee institution can use on complimentary basis the Vision Spring’s     
       Training Centre for 1 year from the date of the receipt of the award (subject to    
       availability) for 1 year from the date of the receipt of the award.

Shri. G D Agrawal Gomabai Netralaya Award

This award is introduced in year 2022.

The main purpose of the “Shri. G D Agrawal Gomabai Netralaya Award” is to inspire especially the smaller and medium volume member hospitals to continue reaching the unreached through “Sustainable community eye health approaches towards integrated people-centred eye care (IPEC)”.

IPEC is defined as services that are managed and delivered so that people receive a continuum of health interventions covering promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. It addresses the full spectrum of eye conditions according to their needs, coordinated across the different levels and sites of care within and beyond the health sector. Also, it recognizes people as participants and beneficiaries of these services, throughout their life course.

The award focuses on approaches/eye care services that are sustainable (or have potential for sustainability) implemented at community level say through outreach and/or vision centres and/or such other mechanisms engaging various stakeholders specially people at large.

The award carries cash prize of Rs.100,000/- and a memento.

Sant Hirdaram Sewa Award for Innovative Eye Care Practices

Last year we have introduced one new award for our members “Sant Hirdaram Sewa Award“

The main purpose of the “Sant Hirdaram Sewa Award for Innovative Eye Care Practices” is to inspire member hospitals to come-up with innovative ideas and implement such innovations/innovative ideas for effective, quality and sustainable eye care service delivery.

Innovative practices and procedures in the field of eye care cover a wide range of topics, including achieving universal eye health, sustainable outreach, research, community education, cost optimization, and comprehensive eye care, etc.

The award focuses on recognizing successful approaches/eye care services that are creative and implemented at the hospital and/or community level.

The award carries cash prize of Rs.101,000/- and a momento.
