About the Conference

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 18th edition of VISION 2020: The Right to Sight-INDIA national conference at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, Punjab. Known as the “Manchester of India,” due to its thriving textile industry, Ludhiana is an industrial hub with a history dating back to centuries. Situated on the fertile plains of the Sutlej River, this bustling metropolis is the largest city in Punjab and an important center for trade, commerce, and education.

Eye hospitals from across the country and VISION 2020 INDIA’s 170 members hospitals will come together along with public health research institutions and international NGOs working in eye health. It will be an amazing experience of mutual sharing of knowledge and good practices in community ophthalmology.  The scientific program is being developed in such a way that deliberations will help in creating a road map for achieving our mission of universal eye health considering the lessons learned over the last two decades.

I welcome you to the conference at Christian Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana. After a long gap, VISION 2020 India Annual Conference is being held in Punjab region. We welcome distinguished delegates from VISION 2020 India’s member organizations and from other eye hospitals.

We assure you of very positive experiences. The scientific and other deliberations will help all of us to jointly strengthen eye care services across the nation.

Ludhiana is Asia’s largest hub for bicycle manufacturing. The apparel industry of Ludhiana produces India’s largest share of winter clothing. There are a lot of sightseeing locations in and around Ludhiana. To name a few: Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana is 100 kms from Ludhiana and has the famous Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake. The holy city of Amritsar is 140 kms from Ludhiana and one can visit the world-famous Golden Temple and watch the `Beating the Retreat` ceremony at the Indo–Pak Wagah border.

Since the VISION 2020 India’s conference focuses on community ophthalmology, the Scientific Committee considers the global guidance coming from WHO and IAPB, and emerging good practices from VISION 2020 India’s member hospitals across the country. We try to bring out issues like Quality and Equity in the discussions so that eye health stakeholders including the government can take the benefit of the learnings, and improve the eye care programs planning and implementation.
